  We met a group who had hired bikes and a guide from Philipps Bikes. The guide was friendly and the group were all having a great time. We rode with them for a couple miles as we were riding at a similar speed. We plan to hire them in the future.

  Bad customer experience.. I went today to get some information to rent bikes and got not very well received. First of all there were nobody in the office and we had to wait 20minutes to see someone. Everything in their office is written in German, just like on their website so it’s difficult for the tourists to understand. So I tought I could get some more details on their prices and options in person but it seemed like it was not possible to get more help since the guy told me to have a look on the website even tho we told him we could not understand it. I don't know if he was busy or just didn't want to help but customer service is not his strong point. It was difficult to communicate and when we agreed to rent 2 bikes for the afternoon and I was just asking questions about their prices the guy got offended of me wondering if we could have the bikes until the next day since we would pay for a full day but will get it only for 3 hours since they are open only between 4 to 7pm and basically told me : so do you want to rent it or not. If you’re not happy you can go somewhere else. In resume I guess it’s a good option if you’re an advanced biker who can speak German and want to rent for a couple of days but if you’re a beginner like us who want to rent bike for a couple hours you can find way better places.

  Extremely poor experience 2 weeks ago. Lots of room for improvement here. The company were unwilling to offer half day rentals despite the awful weather and it seeming like an incredibly quiet period, so we paid over 150 euro’s to take the cheapest two road bikes out for just 3 hours in the pouring rain. Whist the company can’t control the weather, one would have thought they could be flexible in their offering at a time when the weather is awful and they clearly had bikes to spare. We were encouraged to pay an extra 7 euros each to take the optional bike insurance. After paying what felt like an extortionate amount for the bikes, 7 euros insurance each to cover ourselves seemed a minor amount so we both took it out. During our very wet, cold and miserable ride, I proceeded to get a rear puncture halfway up a large climb which turned an already pretty awful ride into one of the worst days out in a long time. Despite having never repaired a rear puncture before, we managed to fix the bike ourselves roadside using the spare inner tube, a youtube video and a lot of swearing (saving the team copious time and cost in a call out/recovery job had we not been able to do this) we cycled back and dropped the bikes off. At this point I was asked by the rather grumpy bike mechanic to pay a further 9 euros to cover the cost of the inner tube I’d used. I was surprised that they tried to charge their customers for something like this, but kindly reminded the employee that we had taken out the extra insurance he sold us which surely covers it. ’No, that is accident insurance which only covers accidents to the bike. You have to pay for the new inner tube’ was the stern response. I was gobsmacked and still am. I’m quite sure a puncture doesn’t falls under the ‘deliberate’ category. The principle that I could have had a crash, written the bike off and walked away without having to pay anything, yet they charge you for a new inner tube doesn’t make sense to me. I think that’s an absolutely disgusting company policy and the attitude of the mechanic didn’t help. After a few minutes of questioning the mechanic as to whether he really thinks that’s fair, he eventually offered for me to keep the money (insinuating that it would be coming out of his wages). I left the money on the counter but walked away with a distaste. Whilst the employee who was in Mallorca from HQ helping with the IT system was extremely helpful, the bike mechanic can do with some work on his attitude. The company could also do with a review of their policies. We’ve rented bikes from elsewhere on the island previously and the level of service was 1000% what we received here, as well as being a much better price. We only came to Philips as it was underneath our hotel so seemed convenient. Won’t be making that mistake again. Hopefully some learning points for the company so others don’t get stung with the same thing.
