Choose the kind of gravel day you want
Mallorca's unpaved riding is spread across mixed networks rather than one continuous, signposted gravel system. Choose the terrain first; it decides the bike setup and the checks that matter most.
All-road connectors
A mostly paved loop joined by shorter dirt sections. This is the easiest format to reroute when a track is closed or rougher than expected.
Setup: Prioritise reliable road handling and enough tyre volume for loose connectors.
Es Pla farm lanes
Flatter agricultural lanes can make an approachable first gravel day, usually linked by quiet tarmac between villages.
Setup: Check every lane's access status and carry navigation; a mapped line is not proof of public access.
Foothill and forest tracks
Rockier, steeper tracks around the Tramuntana foothills demand more self-reliance and can change quickly after rain.
Setup: Use robust tyres, easier gearing and a conservative turnaround plan.
A safer way to build a Mallorca gravel route
Treat an online line as a draft until the full loop has been checked.
- 1Verify accessCheck whether each unpaved segment is a public road or an allowed route, and look for current closures, private-estate boundaries and protected-area rules.
- 2Confirm the surfaceSeparate paved connectors, firm gravel and rough or technical track. Do not infer today's surface from a route name or an old activity alone.
- 3Check recent conditionsRain, heat, forestry work and erosion can change a track. Seek a recent local source and keep an easier alternative.
- 4Plan water and an exitMark water, villages and paved bailouts. Save the route offline and avoid making an uncertain remote segment the only way home.
