Most breakdowns in Mallorca are a puncture, a snapped chain or a gear problem, and most can be solved within an hour. What matters is deciding quickly and in the right order. Work down the list below and stop at the first step that solves your problem.
The decision flow
| Step | Situation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Puncture, dropped chain, loose bolt | Fix it yourself with a spare tube, pump, chain link and multitool |
| 2 | Broken part you cannot fix, but you can still roll or walk | Head for the nearest workshop in a town (see below) |
| 3 | The bike is rented | Call the rental shop first: many will repair or swap the bike, within their terms |
| 4 | You cannot continue and are far from a shop | Use a rescue service or a taxi that takes bikes |
| 5 | Anyone is hurt, or you are in danger | Call 112 immediately |
Rescue is not for tiredness, and an ambulance is not a bike taxi: if the problem is medical, skip straight to step 5.
Step 1: Fix what you can at the roadside
Carry two tubes (or a plug kit for tubeless), tyre levers, a pump or CO2, a quick link for your chain and a multitool. Mallorca’s long descents and rough road edges are hard on tyres, and many climbs have no phone signal worth relying on, so a fix you can do yourself is the cheapest outcome. The packing list guide covers the full kit.
Step 2: Find the nearest workshop
Workshops cluster in the big riding bases, and our directory lists them by town:
- Palma has by far the most workshops.
- Pollença, including the port area, covers the north.
- Alcúdia covers the bay and the north-east.
- Inca is the central option.
Sóller has only a couple of listings, so check the full bike repair directory for the island. Opening hours vary and many small shops close for lunch or on Sundays, so phone before you ride to them. Some listed places are mainly motorbike or tour businesses, so confirm that they work on bicycles.
Step 3: Rental bike? Call the shop
If you hired the bike, your rental agreement usually says who to call. A rental shop may repair the bike, bring a replacement or tell you which workshop to use, but only within the booked terms and service area. Keep the shop’s number saved on your phone before you set off. Browse bike rental shops and confirm assistance terms when you book.
Step 4: Rescue service or taxi
- Bicycle rescue. Mallorca Cycle Shuttle runs a bike rescue service that is sold as cover you arrange in advance. It collects you and your bike and takes you to a repair shop, your accommodation or the rental shop. It is not for tiredness or medical problems. Check the current terms on the official page.
- Taxi with a bike. In the mountains a taxi may be your only option. Escorca Taxi, based in Lluc, is listed in our directory with its official site at escorca.taxi. Ask first whether the driver can carry a bike, and agree the price before you get in.
Step 5: Injury or danger
If anyone is hurt, call 112 and give your location. See emergency contacts and the cycling safety guide for what to say and what to carry.
Mountain notes
Sa Calobra. There is no bike shop at the bottom of Sa Calobra in our directory, and signal in the gorge is patchy. You descend 9 km of hairpins and then must climb back out, so check tyres and brakes at the top and carry a full repair kit. If you break down at the bottom, the options are repairing it yourself, a taxi or a rescue service.
Cap de Formentor. On Formentor the nearest workshops are back in the Pollença area. Turn back early if something feels wrong rather than riding to the lighthouse.
